Heavy ground on the Levels
Clay and peat soils hold moisture for a long time after rain. Watering them on a fixed daily schedule waterlogs the roots. We set longer gaps between cycles and, where it is worth it, fit a soil moisture sensor so the system only runs when the ground has actually dried.
Thin soils on the Mendips
Higher up, shallow soil over limestone drains almost immediately. These gardens want shorter, more frequent watering, and drip lines through the beds so the water goes to the roots rather than running off.
Commercial and larger grounds
